Offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of both the individual and the group. Prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the child to grow and to explore. Interact with the children positively and to encourage their involvement in activities. Plan, with the supporting teacher(s), weekly lesson plans based on a curriculum outline.  To provide aides with the opportunity to have input in the program. Create a strong working unit amongst staff that is enjoyable for everyone. Supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Establish and maintain good communications with parents through parent conferences and on a daily basis. Observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior. Use appropriate and positive discipline and train staff so that discipline is consistent. Maintain all records and files of each individual child in the classroom. Maintain classroom welcome packets and update periodically. Keep staff informed of program goals and developments with children, parents and administration.Preferred:  A bachelors degree in early childhood education or related field.  An associates degree in early childhood education with 2 years experience. Acceptable:  18 ECE credits (3 credits in human growth and development) with 1 year experience.   Ability to relate to children sensitively. Evidence of emotional maturity and stability. Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively. Physical stamina Ability to recognize and to record significant individual and group behavior. Ability to develop an age appropriate curriculum Ability to supervise personnel. Ability to remain confidential when dealing with individual children, staff, or sensitive issues.

To provide a warm and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively.  A Lead Teacher must respect young children and their families and have knowledge and skills to develop a curriculum and classroom environment in which the children will learn and succeed.  As the leader of the educational team, lead teachers are responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team.  They must be skilled in communicating with adults, so they can work effectively with families and members of the teaching team.
